Incumbency beats innovation in the AI answer, for now. Zendesk wins because it has been the category's name for a decade, not because it out-AIs the field. If you want AI-native support, Intercom (Fin) and Gorgias are the tools the market talks about, even though the engines still default to Zendesk. Take the near-unanimous answer as the safe enterprise pick, then weigh Freshdesk on price and the AI-natives on capability.
