Which survey tool do AI engines recommend? Four answers, no majority
What each engine named
Same question to all eight: what is the best survey and forms tool. The answers scattered across four tools with no majority. SurveyMonkey and Typeform split the mainstream, Qualtrics took the enterprise vote, and Perplexity, reading the live web, surfaced SurveyNinja, a long-tail name the memory engines never reach for.
| AI engine | How it answers | Its top survey tool pick |
|---|---|---|
| Llama 3.3 70B | memory | SurveyMonkey |
| Llama 4 Scout | memory | SurveyMonkey |
| ChatGPT (GPT-5) | grounded | SurveyMonkey |
| Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite | grounded | SurveyMonkey |
| Cohere Command-A | memory | Typeform |
| Qwen 3.6 | memory | Typeform |
| GPT-OSS 120B | memory | Qualtrics |
| Perplexity | grounded | SurveyNinja |
Two household names split the mainstream and grounding drags up the long tail, so no consensus ever forms.AI Recommendation Audit 2026 · Survey and forms
Why survey tools fragment
Fragmentation happens when a category has several equally-famous defaults and no single verb-level winner. SurveyMonkey and Typeform are both household names for different jobs, quick classic surveys versus beautiful conversational forms, so the engines split between them. Qualtrics owns the enterprise-research end, pulling a vote of its own. And Perplexity, reading the live web, surfaced SurveyNinja, an obscure tool that a grounded retrieval can pull up but that no memory engine would name. Four defensible answers, zero agreement, that is what a category with no dominant brand looks like to AI.
The full survey and forms leaderboard, blended across 8 engines
Beyond the top pick, here is how often each tool was named, blended into a category score. SurveyMonkey and Typeform are nearly level at the top, Qualtrics and Google Forms form a middle tier, and the rest trail.
We report the obscure pick as measured. Perplexity named SurveyNinja, a tool the other seven engines never mentioned; we log it exactly as returned rather than quietly dropping it, because the outlier is part of the finding, it shows how a grounded engine can surface a long-tail name from the live web. Treat it as a data point about the engines, not an endorsement of the tool.
What to do with a fragmented answer
If you are buying: ignore the lack of consensus and pick by job. SurveyMonkey for quick classic surveys and market research, Typeform for beautiful conversational forms and higher completion, Qualtrics for rigorous enterprise research, Google Forms for free and simple. Fragmentation is the AI telling you there is no one-size default, so match the tool to the survey you are actually running.
If you sell a survey tool: a fragmented category is the best possible news, no default is locked, and even an obscure tool (SurveyNinja) surfaced on a grounded engine. You win by owning a nameable slice of the live web ("NPS surveys for SaaS," "GDPR-safe forms for the EU") clearly enough that the engines learn to name you. Where no giant dominates, the AI answer is genuinely up for grabs.
In a fragmented category, is AI naming you at all?
We measure exactly this for your brand: your real buyer queries across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI, scored against every rival the engines name instead of you, including the long-tail ones. Free, hand-run, dated.

Which survey tool do AI engines recommend most in 2026?
SurveyMonkey, but without a majority. Of 8 engines, 4 named SurveyMonkey, 2 named Typeform, 1 named Qualtrics, and Perplexity surfaced an obscure tool, SurveyNinja. Blended, SurveyMonkey barely edges Typeform.
Why do AI engines disagree so much on survey tools?
Because the category has several equally-famous defaults and no verb-level winner. SurveyMonkey and Typeform split the mainstream for different jobs, Qualtrics owns enterprise research, and grounded engines can pull up long-tail names. No single brand dominates, so no consensus forms.
SurveyMonkey vs Typeform, which should I pick?
By the job. SurveyMonkey for quick classic surveys and market research; Typeform for beautiful, conversational forms with higher completion rates. They are nearly tied in the AI vote because they answer different needs, so pick on the survey you are running.
Method and honesty note
This is original measurement, part of The AI Recommendation Audit 2026 (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.20767878, CC-BY). Across 16 B2B and GTM software categories we put the same buying question to 8 live AI engines (Llama 3.3 via Groq, Cohere Command-A, Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite grounded, Perplexity, ChatGPT GPT-5, Llama 4 Scout, GPT-OSS 120B, Qwen 3.6), snapshot captured June 19 to July 8, 2026. This page reports the survey and forms category. Blended scores are computed across engines per the audit methodology, reported as measured. AI answers are volatile, so this is a dated snapshot, not a permanent ranking; re-run the published protocol to reproduce it.
